Dr. Hazem Sarhan, General Manager
Dr. Sarhan has over 25 years’ experience in projects in maritime, oil and gas, power generation, petrochemicals, industrial and liquefied natural gas plants. Dr. Sarhan graduated with Honours from Cairo University, earned his MSc. in Civil Engineering and commenced his career at the same University. He earned his Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Houston, Texas specializing in deep foundations. He worked in Bechtel Oil & Gas hub in Houston [2001 – 2007] on a multitude of challenging engineering and construction assignments in North America, West Africa, Egypt and Trinidad and Tobago. Dr. Sarhan joined Artelia in 2007, working and managing projects in maritime, ports, and oil and gas industries in the Middle East. Dr. Sarhan combines strong technical aptitude with a seasoned experience in design, construction and management of large, multidisciplinary and complex projects. He has a proven record of coordinating and motivating the efforts of diverse engineering teams to deliver solutions for challenging assignments.
Fatemeh Riazi, Lead Marine Engineer
Ms. Fatemeh Riazi has more than 20 years’ rich professional experience in marine structural design. Her significant experience in design of exposed LPG and LNG jetties, mooring and berthing dolphins, open-type wharves, suspended deck, concrete block sheet piled quay walls, ship lift yard and container yard in U.A.E and the Middle East. She has more than 2 years’ experience in dynamic response analysis of fixed offshore platforms against environmental loading including wave and earthquake using SACS® software including fatigue analysis and also familiar with offshore and onshore analysis and design software such as SAP 2000, SACS, ETABS, Geoslope, Wallap, Geo5, Repute and SIGMA/W. She is well experienced with seismic and dynamic analysis of structures and familiar with different international codes such as the British, Euro code and US Structural Codes (BSI, ACI and ASEC) and different marine and offshore codes such as OCDI, EAU, BS6349 and API and expert in MATHCAD programming performing a program for concrete block quay walls and many spread sheets for design of steel and concrete elements.
Francisco Chaves, Lead Coastal Engineer
Mr. Francisco is a Coastal Engineer based in Dubai, UAE, since 2014, who has extensive experience undertaking complex technical studies for marine and coastal projects at a national and regional level. Francisco has worked with both private and public developers and contractors, having played key roles in the delivery of a significant number of large scale projects. He has vast hands-on experience in the development of coastal studies and engineering designs for which he has often assumed positions of leadership and technical coordination as part of multi-disciplinary teams. Francisco deeply values teamwork and the role of mentorship, having previously developed and led a team of coastal engineers. Throughout his career Francisco has accrued insightful experience having played diverse roles representing both the consultancy and client sides, thus allying his strong technical background with a deep understanding of the marine construction industry. Francisco has also been involved in the preparation of tender packages, contracts and techno-commercial proposals for various large-scale projects.
Dr. Mohamed Mansour, Lead Geotechnical Engineer
Dr. Mansour graduated with Honors from Ain Shams University, Egypt in 2000. He was awarded his M.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering in 2003 from the same university. In 2004, Dr. Mansour started his doctoral studies at the University of Alberta in Canada and earned his Ph.D. degree in Geotechnical Engineering in 2009. Dr. Mansour has twenty-two years of experience in the field of Geotechnical Engineering, implementing both academic knowledge and practical field and design experience.
Dr. Mansour joined ADEC in 2019 as a Lead Geotechnical Engineer after working as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer in Artelia for four years in different marine projects in the UAE, Egypt, KSA, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait. His responsibilities included the geotechnical analysis and design of different marine structures, including interpretation of site investigation data, issuing geotechnical interpretative and design reports, geotechnical design of marine works (breakwaters, revetments, beach groynes, jetties, pontoons, etc.), design of quay walls (gravity-type and embedded-type walls), ground improvement of reclamation works, preparation of technical and commercial proposals, and preparation of technical specifications. Duties also included providing support and/or geotechnical advice to other project technical teams, and the supervision, scheduling, training and mentoring of junior and intermediate geotechnical engineers; ensuring that team members are assigned appropriate roles for which they are qualified.
Dr. Ahmed Gaweesh, Senior Coastal Engineer
Dr. Ahmed Gaweesh has over 19 years’ has a diverse experience in coastal, hydraulic and River Engineering Projects. Dr. Gaweesh earned his PhD in 2014 in Civil Concentration from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, USA. He Joined K&A-Cairo [2019-2022] as the Lead Modeler for Coastal and Marine Projects. Dr. Gaweesh has vast experience in the modelling and design of coastal and fluvial protection structures and infrastructure, including artificial islands and the coastal restoration of natural systems. He has a proven record of leading studies in the GCC, Middle east and the USA. His modelling experience includes hydro-morphodynamic circulation, offshore met-oceanic and wave propagation studies, spectral wave modelling, flushing and water renewal, intake/outfall for desalination or power plants oil spills and more. Dr. Gaweesh continues to lead modelling and coordination efforts. He is a team player. Yet has proven supervisory and mentorship skills. Being well-versed in technical writing, he is involved in the development of technical reports, preparation of tender packages and peer-reviewed articles.
Rajan Babu, Intake and Outal System - Design Specialist
Over 13 years of experience in the Design of the Sea Intake and Outfall system for Power, Desalination and Fish Farms. Successfully oversaw major infrastructure projects from the concept stage to the detailed design stage, including construction and commissioning supports. Technical responsibilities include preparation of concept/feasibility study, preliminary design, detailed design of hydraulics and offshore pipeline stability studies, preparation of tender documents and construction support and project closeout until commissioning.
In addition to design, he has been responsible for the review/ preparation of technical commercial proposals submitted by the subcontractors in EPC projects, for complex projects such as infrastructure developments including large sea Intakes, Pumping stations, Civil structures and outfall facilities.
John Rae Manaois, Senior Coastal Engineer
Mr. John has over 10 years of experience in the planning, design, construction and management for projects in the coastal and hydraulic engineering field. He has vast experience in the design of coastal protection structures, such as revetment, breakwater, scour protection, etc. He has also conducted several numerical modelling works and carried out physical model testing at DMC’s in-house hydraulic laboratory. Experience in other design engineering works for maritime projects are also obtained. This refers to responsibilities such as managing Xbloc projects during works execution, port layout design, vessel impact risk assessment on a structure, conducting mooring analysis and coastal morphology studies.

Amr Elshanawany, Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Mr. Amr has more than Eighteen (18) years of experience in geotechnical engineering working in site investigations, shallow foundation, deep foundation, earth work, slope stability, Deep excavation, tunneling, ground anchors, dewatering systems, ground improvement, mechanically stabilized earth walls, geotechnical data interpretation, geotechnical modeling and geotechnical reporting. He has long experience in the geotechnical analysis and designs for different types of structures including marine structures, infra-structure, water and treatment plants, power plants, conventional structure, bridges, roads, industrial structure. He has experience in geotechnical analysis software such as Plaxis, Midas GTS, Flac, Wallap, slope, settle 3D, etc, he also familiar with different design approaches and international codes, including Eurocode, BS, and AASHTO. He worked in projects across the Middle East and Africa.
Shady Elsalakawy, Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Mr. Shady has fourteen years of experience in the field of Geotechnical Engineering. Most of his experience [twelve years] were in maritime projects. He spent six years in the design office of an international marine main contractor, and the rest of his experience was in reputable design consultancy firms. Hence, he has full awareness of the design and constructability aspects of the marine geotechnics. Shady’s responsibilities in ADEC included the geotechnical analysis and design of different marine structures, including interpretation of site investigation data, issuing geotechnical interpretative and design reports, geotechnical design/slope stability of marine works (breakwaters, revetments, beach groynes, jetties, pontoons, etc.), design of quay walls/retaining systems (gravity-type and embedded-type walls), ground improvement of reclamation works, preparation of technical and commercial proposals, and preparation of technical specifications.
Sumaya Ali, Senior Environmental Engineer
Sumaya is an Environmental Engineer with a background in Chemical Engineering and has 9 years of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) experience. She has participated in several EIAs in the Middle East, drafted Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and carried out Environmental Monitoring. Since joining ADEC in 2019, she has been responsible for QHSE issues and getting ADEC prequalified with various organizations in the Middle East.
